Akseli Gallen-Kallela (1865–1931) was a Swedish-speaking Finnish painter best known for his illustrations of the Kalevala, the Finnish national epic. His work was considered very important for the Finnish national identity.
The obverse of the Akseli Gallen-Kallela collector coin depicts a painter's palette, the descending spirit and the Swan of Tuonela. The figure on the reverse is an homage to Gallen-Kallela's prints.
