    Description

Hand-stitched silk with bright red silk lining. Flowers painted on both inside and outside of the bottom of the Kimono. There are three simple 4-petal flowers painted in the center of the neck area and on the center of the back of each sleeve.
Measures 63 ½” from top of collar to bottom of skirt. Ars are 27 ½” long. There is one small area that is ripped towards the bottom on the back side and some dirt on one small section of the bottom of the back side, but otherwise, this is a beautiful pale gold silk fabric with lovely painted florals and other simple ornamentation.
This is a women's "irotomesode" kimono. It is a semi-formal garment for married and unmarried women. I know it seems long to be for a Japanese woman, but in fact, women's kimono are always longer than men's. Men's are cut to size, whereas women wear theirs folded beneath their obi belt. It's considered elegant.
Judging from the style of yuzen (resist dye) and the red lining, this kimono is probably from the 1930's or perhaps a little earlier.
